28 June Tuesday

Today's my off day again and i'm in the downtown library of Sandusky. The building looks like a castle and the town's pretty much empty. Basically there's nothing exciting here. This week has been q fruitful in a way because i've taken some of the roller coaster rides and eaten from a few of the famous eateries. I rode the Gemini, Magnum, Wild Cat and Mantis. The Magnum has a very high peak and you have a nice view from the top and the free-fall feeling is definitely exciting and scary. Wild Cat is supposedly a child's ride but it's exciting though because it's fast. I like Mantis. It's kind of special because instead of sitting down, this ride is a standing one and it's more fun than scary. Previously i've also taken MaxAir (a new ride which is like a big and tall pendulum and swings you high up in the air; the view is magnificient), Wicked Twister (i like this too. it zooms off on the count of three and it's a U-shaped structure which has twists along the two arms), PowerTower (which is a high elevator and releases you from the top to give you the plunging feel. it's fun), the Raptor (it looks scary but it's not. it has a lot of 360 degrees turns and circular hoops so you feel dizzy instead) and Blue Streak (a very old coaster, so it's a classic with a number of pretty good drops, only that the ride is bumpy). I've yet tried the Dragster (the world's fastest coaster which takes you up a U-shaped thing too) and Millenium Force (which is said to be one of the best coasters in Cedarpt and my friend said it's similar to Magnum). Lixia doesnt dare to take the rides but i must coax her up the coasters one day. Haha...
And, i've eaten Johnny Rockets; it's a franchise. Their specialty is burgers and the thing is, they dance when the music comes on, regardless of whether they have a long queue or not and some of the servers (both guys and girls) will dance at the entrance. The service's not good and the dance's not spectacular; so-so. I ate at Famous Daves yesterday night and it's known for its ribs. The ribs are really good and the meat's so juicy and they have a lot of barbecue sauces you can add on. The bread pudding is also not bad, just that you get tired of the sweet taste after a while.
We've met some Taiwan ple this week. There's a girl staying at the apartment below us and she works q near us too. She's rei-yu and she lives near the Shilin market. A pity she's only going back in Sept so we cant stay in her hse and she wont be able to bring us ard. There's another girl we just met- Yi Zhen. Two other guys that i got to know- Guo Kai and Xue Yu. They are all very friendly ple and we get along well.
Brandon's now our supervisor too and tell you something, I got my bronze tag!!!! which means that i have a pay raise of $0.25 per hr, which amounts to q a sum from now till the end of my work. Work hrs are getting less because more ple came and we have to do shifts.
I'm confirmed leaving Cleveland for Orlando on the 19th Jul (less than a mth away).

Monday 23rd May

I'll be visiting the Niagara Falls this wednesday. It's a trip orgnised for the employees. My schedule for this week starts at 12noon almost every day and i work until close. There's nothing much actually...oh ya, but i ate donuts this morning and mummy woke me up with her call at 6+am. I like Krispy Kreme! It's really sad that Singapore doesn't have it and strawberry shortcake is my favourite flavour. Their donuts are not like the ones we have in Singapore. It's a circular dough without the hole in the middle, and they have fillings inside and the outside surface is coated with sugar or chocolate or nuts depending on what you buy. It's sweet, but it's special. All of the other friends have gone shopping and i'm deprived of shopping! We only managed to browse through 2 stores and i didn't buy anything except a lot of groceries. We bought rice and maggie mee. Lixia's working at Mac too but i don't think i'll work there because she looked so tired everytime she worked 2 jobs a day. For the past 2 days she worked 5am-10am in Mac and 12n-close at Cedar. This's crazy and i'm already v tired fr cedar work. How am i going to stand the additional hrs if i work at Mac? Though i'll earn less money, but i think it's not worth it to tire yourself out in a far away land. Adios.

11th May Wed

Hi all, today's wed. I'm working at 230pm later. I'm working in a candy shop called Sweets N Treats. It's pretty cool. It sells popcorn, cotton candy, icee, fudge, taffy (a kind of saltwater sweet) and its specialty is elephant ear. It's sth like roti prata coated with sugar and cinnamon and tastes real good. I learned to spin cotton candy too. Its taste is somehow different from that in Singapore. Each time when we buy cotton candy, it's cold already but here, i get to try the freshly made warm ones and there're so many diff colours, not that we don't have it in Singapore, but the fact that i get to spin it out all real nice and fluffy is another thing. I tried the choco fudge and choco mint fudge yesterd too. It's not in liquid form. Instead, it's in a whole solid form and you cut and weigh them and pack them in beautiful boxes. Oh yes, we sell hot caramel apples too. Apples are cut into wedges and we poured hot caramel over it. It's damn delicioius. You can coat it with peanuts and rainbow sprinkles too. Mydear, looks like i ate a lot of god and fattening stuff over here. There's a whole lot of nice food here. I tried eating cheese on a stick, cheesewulzers and the pretzels. The pretzels here are diff too. It's like softer and more doughy and they dip it with cheese. They have everything with cheese.
Haha, and most of the people here are not as model-like as those we saw on sit-coms or movies. They are pretty fat but they are confident withthemselves, so it's good. The rest of them are working at Hot Potatoes, gift shops, arcades, ticketing entrances etc. The other batch of students from Singapore reached here 2 days ago. There are 7 girls and 2 guys. They moved in with us.
I have been working real hard these days. From morning till closing time and almost every day i'd reach home at ard 11pm. Morning starts at 8am. There's only half hr- one hr break each day. I haven't tried any of th erides yet but a few of them are off today so they went to try out. I think it'll be fun. Some of the rides definitely look scary. I took a lot of pictures but there's no way i can upload them now. There's no off day for me this week because they said that there's a lack of manpower. The park's opened till 8pm on weekdays and till 10pm on saturdays. I'll be taking off on 25th may because i signed up for the niagara falls trip organised for the employees.
Weather's turning warmer day by day. I't snot as cold as when we arrived last wk. Alright, i've got to go work. Will keep you updated.

4th May'05 Wednesday

Argh.... actually finished my entry but pressed sth wrong and everything's gone! my goodness! this is my 4th day at CedarPt and it's alright. The weather's not just cold. In fact, it's very cold here, esp in the mornings and afternoons. Just 2 days ago ,we met with a mini hail. It's so cool, imagine rain turning into ice when it touches your hair or clothes. There are 12 of us together rt now, from Singapore. 8 girls and 4 guys and we are living in the same apartment. That is, guys in one apartment and girls in another. I'm now in the employee recreation centre using one of the eight coms and one of the girls managed to sign up for internet connection in our room yesterd night. She's damn happy cos why? Can see her bf through the web cam! haha... she's a happy girl. We went Walmart and Meijers just yesterd and on the second day we arrived. Bought a lot of foodstuff. Made a sandwich this morning. There's egg, veg, ham, hotdog and my fav coffee. I think i'm gonna get fat at this rate we're treating ourselves. Home-cooked food is definitely better. Yesterd's dinner was a sumptuous microwaved lasagna. That's pretty good. We had this ultra big tub of ice cream for only USD$5+ which we shared. Topped with strawberries and bananas too. I don't even treat myself this well when i'm in Singapore. Woa! The only problem we have here is that distances between places are quite far away and we rely solely on taxis. I remembered the first time when we squeezed into a single cab, the whole lot of 12 of us. Amazing! But it was exhortion. Had to pay USD$5 per person and i thought that it was 5 per cab. So, we became smarter and bargained with the drivers. Subsequent rides counted up to 3 or 2 bucks each. Much better. I like the weather here. Though it's cold, you can feel that the air here is fresher. Some of the people are not that receptive towards asians but some are quite ok and they are rather friendly, i think it depends on the person as well. I haven't really started work yet but the hours will come in soon next week because the park will be officially opened this saturday. I think there's going to be a firework. Looking forward to it. Ok, i'll update you all again. Meanwhile, enjoy your hols and stay cool. Hasta luego.

Countdown: 1 day

My last night in Singapore. Can't bear to part with my 流金岁月。A great show. I like HK serials. Action + romance + superstars, definitely worth the time. Anyway, both grandmothers helped me pack my main luggage today and gave me lots of tips and advices on travelling and keeping the important documents safe etc. Can't bear to part with my 龟龟 also. Luckily jas bought me a small terrapin toy. Looks like i'm abt to bring the entire house over. I brought clothes hanger, pegs, torch, biscuits, coffee, clothes,... Haha. Think my mama will be very worried during this period so all of you can start updating her whatever's on my blog. Nothing much today. Buena suerta para mi durante la proxima tres meses. Hasta luego, adios.

Prologue

Countdown: 2 days

I thought that I would write a prologue, just like any other novel. 2 days more to flying off. How am i feeling now? Hmm... excited to see the other side of the world; a little nervous, because it's my first time far away from home for 3 mths; scared, because i don't know what to expect over there. What if i come back in disappointment? Very much like a little girl now, because i know i can buy clothes which i cannot find in Singapore and mummy is not around to scold me "That's too much" or "Don't spend too much money". But i'll definitely ask Lixia and Xueling to stop me. I am very much a spendthrift material. *shrug* My travel mates are not like me. My idea of this summer is to enjoy myself, experience US and bring back gifts for a lot of people including myself. I have made some calculations. Even before reaching there, we've paid $3,400 and it is unlikely that i have earnings to bring back Singapore. I'd be glad if my wages can cover my initial costs. Even if i have to fork out $1,000 from my own pocket for the travel, I still think that it is quite reasonable for the 3-mth stay in general. Feeling pissed about Speedwing because there's so much disorganisation and our return dates have yet been confirmed. This is just 2 more days to departure. Just read from the CedarPoint person-in-charge that it just snowed on Sunday and it is advisable to bring some warm clothing over. Till we meet, adios.
